MMI Accommodation Request Documentation Guidance

Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) – SFU School of Medicine Admissions

This guidance applies only to applicants who have been invited by the SFU School of Medicine to participate in the Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) and who are requesting disability-related accommodations for this stage of the admissions process.

Purpose of Documentation

Disability is a protected ground under human rights legislation. The Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL) may request documentation to verify the presence and functional impact of a disability or medical condition in relation to participation in the MMI, in order to assess appropriate accommodations.

Documentation is used solely for the purpose of assessing and implementing MMI accommodations. It is not used to determine admission eligibility and does not register applicants for ongoing CAL services.

What Documentation Should Demonstrate

Documentation submitted for MMI accommodations should:

  • Confirm the presence of a disability or medical condition
  • Describe the functional impacts relevant to participation in an interview-based process (e.g., communication, processing speed, sensory environment, stamina, mobility)
  • Support consideration of reasonable accommodations for the MMI

A specific diagnosis is not required unless necessary to understand functional impacts.

Acceptable Forms of Documentation

Applicants may submit one or more of the documentation types listed below. In many cases, a single piece of documentation is sufficient.

Documentation may include (but is not limited to):

  • Completion of the CAL MMI Verification of Disability Form by a qualified healthcare professional
  • A diagnostic report or brief letter from a qualified assessor
  • Previous accommodation documentation relevant to interview or assessment settings

Applicants are not required to submit multiple documents unless additional information is needed to understand functional impacts in relation to the MMI.

CAL may request additional or clarifying documentation if needed to better understand functional impacts or to assess appropriate accommodations for the MMI.

If you are unsure whether your documentation is sufficient, you are encouraged to submit what you have or contact CAL by email at caladmin@sfu.ca for guidance
