Fall 2021 SFU entrance scholarship competition is closed. All SFU Undergraduate Scholars Entrance Scholarships will be awarded prior to June 1st.

Fall 2021 entrance award and bursary applications are closed. Recipients of entrance awards and bursaries will be selected in June.

The University assumes that students will arrange their own funding to meet immigration requirements for the issuance and/or renewal of student authorizations and visas. An offer of admission to SFU is not an offer of financial support. Bursaries administered by SFU, awarded on the basis of financial need, are provided as supplemental funding and cannot be used for the core funding required to meet immigration requirements.

SFU Undergraduate Scholars Entrance Scholarships - Application Required

Application Status:  Closed

SFU recognizes high school students who demonstrate excellence in both their academic and extracurricular activities.  The value of a scholarship may range from $10,000 up to an amount sufficient to cover all tuition and mandatory supplementary fees normally required for the completion of a student’s first undergraduate degree at SFU. 

Scholarships are available to domestic and international high school students admitted for the fall term to an undergraduate degree in any faculty. 

Application Period for Fall 2021: October 5, 2020 - December 17, 2020 
Supporting Documents* Deadline: January 31, 2021
Minimum Requirement: grades in the 90% range or a minimum 31 International Baccalaureate points**
Scholarship Value: ranges from $10,000 up to an amount sufficient to cover tuition and mandatory supplementary fees

Further funding, in the form of a living allowance, may be offered to support exceptionally talented students with demonstrated financial need.

Recipients will be notified from mid-March to mid-May 2021.

*This includes an academic reference, a community involvement reference, and all admission items on the To Do List
**Predicted bonus points are not considered in the calculation

Beedie School of Business and Sustainable Energy Engineering Applicants: Your entrance scholarship application will be used in lieu of the Supplemental Application for admission to your program as well as for the scholarship competition.

H.Y. Louie and Lohn Entrance Award

  • A summary of your achievements and activities demonstrating your involvement:
    provide clear, concise details about your volunteer work, school or community involvement, extracurricular activities, and artistic or athletic interests (500 words max)

Lloyd Carr-Harris Entrance Scholarship (application not required)

  • Value: $20,000 ($2,500 x 8 installments over 8 terms)

  • Awarded to the top applicant admitted directly to the Beedie School of Business

The Jim Bennett Entrance Scholarship (application required)


The endowment supporting the Jim Bennett Entrance Scholarship was established in 2019 with a generous gift from Jim Bennett. One entrance scholarship will be offered annually in the fall term to students entering SFU from Holy Cross Regional High School (Surrey, BC) with grades in the 90% range or 31 International Baccalaureate (IB) points and are admitted to a Bachelor's degree program in any faculty. Students are selected on the basis of academic excellence and demonstrated exceptional achievements such as contributions to school or community life.

  • Number: 1
  • Citizenship: Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents, or International Citizens
  • Term: Fall only
