George Heyman (he/him)
Adjunct Professor, SFU School of Resource and Environmental Management
George has served as president of the BC General Employees’ Union, executive director of Sierra Club BC, MLA for Vancouver-Fairview and served seven years as minister of environment and climate change strategy, two of those also responsible for TransLink. He oversaw development of the province’s CleanBC climate and energy plan, and as a member of Cabinet’s Planning and Priorities committee helped set BC’s legislative, social and economic agenda. George has been a member of advisory committees for SFU’s Masters in Public Policy and Labour Studies programs, and Royal Roads University's School of Leadership Studies. More recently he was a special advisor to BC’s finance minister and is a guest lecturer and resource at SFU and UBC. With a deep interest in social and environmental sustainability, equitable economics and communities that are welcoming, livable and affordable he jumped at the invitation to be a resource and sounding board for the exciting and timely SUSI project. He hopes his experience in public policy development and implementation will add value to SUSI’s work
