Showcase your research

April 1, 2026

Join us for the Undergraduate Research Symposium- SFU's interdisciplinary event highlighting undergraduate research across the university. Undergraduate students will have the chance to share their research, connect with fellow researchers, and potentially win one of the cash prizes.

Call for Judges

The planning committee is currently recruiting panel convenors and judges for the 2026 symposium and would like to extend the invitation to the SFU community. The time commitment will be approximately 2 hours between 1:30-4:00pm. Judges will also be provided with a detailed rubric and an optional training session. As an interdisciplinary event, we warmly welcome participation from across disciplines. Interested in Participating?

The Undergraduate Research Symposium (UGRS) is an opportunity for eligible undergraduate students from all disciplines to present their original high-calibre research in a friendly and supportive environment for a diverse and interdisciplinary audience.  Students have the opportunity to participate in the poster session or in a panel presentation. Presenters are grouped into moderated sessions based on common themes with the aim to promote interdisciplinary connections across subjects. Students are also invited to attend the symposium as attendees where they will have access to a series of panel talks geared towards engaging students as emerging researchers and provoking dynamic and interdisciplinary discussion.

Eligibility

Current undergraduate students from all academic disciplines are encouraged to submit proposals for the Symposium. To be eligible for participation, students should meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled in an SFU Honours program or capstone;
  • Have presented their work at SFU faculty or department-sponsored research symposia;
  • Participate in supervised research at SFU.

Interested undergraduate students should work closely with their supervisors on both the application and their presentations. Please contact us at ugrs@sfu.ca if you have any questions about eligibility.

UGRS Journal Vol. 4 Online

The Undergraduate Research Symposium Journal is now online! This annual journal serves as an archive of the UGRS proceedings.

The journal builds awareness of the UGRS presenters' hard work and celebrates their significant research accomplishments. The undergraduate research being conducted at SFU is of an extremely high calibre, and we are proud to be able to share some of it in this online journal format.
