Ron Johnston, Director

Ron is a member of the Squamish Nation and is an SFU alumnus. He has worked at SFU since 2012 and is currently serving as the Director of the Office for Aboriginal People. Prior to his current role, Ron worked as the Director of the Office of Indigenous Education in the Faculty of Education. His career as an Aboriginal educator spans over two decades and through his work he has come to realize that education is a transformative change agent that raises levels of awareness, understanding, and empowerment for Aboriginal People. Prior to working at SFU, Ron worked as an Intergovernmental Affairs Advisor in Education, for the BC Region for the Government of Canada. He also worked in the college system as the Director of Aboriginal Education and Services at Vancouver Community College and as an Aboriginal Trades Training Coordinator and Consultant for the BC Government and various Aboriginal communities and organizations.

Gary George hails from the Bulkley Valley around the Telkwa/Smithers/Houston/Burns Lake region in North-central British Columbia.  Gary holds a BA degree from University of Northern BC (U.N.B.C.) in Prince George, a Professional Development Program Certificate (PDP), and a Master's in Education (MEd) from Simon Fraser University.  Gary believes that he was raised in one of the "nicest places in the world," and often tells people in the Lower Mainland that, "if you haven't seen Northern BC, you haven't seen BC."
