REPAIRS ON STITCHED FACIAL DETAILS more  -->

Two dolls in the collection had missing facial details, which required replacement. There were traces of threads and tiny holes in the fabric where the originals had been. This provided a guide for me to follow thus making it easier to stitch the missing facial details. I used the appropriate coloured cotton thread and a fine, long needle to make the stitches.  Anchoring knots were avoided to allow easy removal, which fell in line with the priority of reversibility of repairs.  Instead of making anchoring knots I took a very long stitch through the head of the doll and then followed the stitching.  To end I took a long stitch through the back of the dolls head, pulling the thread tight, while pressing down on the fabric. I carefully snipped the thread very close to complete the repair. When the fabric was released the end of the thread disappeared inside the dolls head. I based this conservation action on my experience as a fabric crafter and doll maker as research did not offer a method that related to this repair issue.
