REPAIR OF TORN FACES AND UNSTABLE NECKS more  -->

There were two dolls in the collection that had tears in the sides of their faces, which were caused from unstable necks support.

The Matador Bull doll was one that displayed this damage.  I was able to repair the tear in the face with a ladder stitch. To stop this from happening again I sewed a high, brown collar, reinforced with nylon tulle around the neck tightly. The Matador Bull doll did originally have a brown collar piece but it was not as stiff or as high as the replacement. I felt the head must be secured in this way or the face may tear open again.

The second doll with tears on the face could not be repaired, as the fabric was too fragile. My efforts to stitch the tear only caused more fraying of the fabric. Since I could not repair the face. I covered the whole head with white tulle and secured it to the doll’s neck and shoulders,  as this technique would hold the tear together and reduce the stress on the torn area. The tulle application can easily be removed  if a better method of repair was found.
