As readers and listeners, are we covertly finishing the sentences we are taking in? Psycholinguistic researchers agree that language comprehension has a predictive component, but the nature and extent of prediction during comprehension are topics of heated debate. In this seminar, SFU Cognitive Science and Linguistics lecturer Margaret Grant will review the evidence for predictive processing, and discuss its implications for our understanding of the organization of the language system in the human mind and brain.
