GIS undergraduate students participate in the Canada-wide 2024 AppChallenge competition

GIS students Tiana Andjelic (BEnv) and Vincent Liu (CS) dedicated a full week of their Spring 2024 term to develop a GeoApp for the just concluded Canada-wide 2024 Esri Canada AppChallenge competition. Their GeoApp “Urbantario” was motivated by the rapid process of urbanization and its impacts on the surrounding natural environment, with a focus on Southern Ontario, Canada.

Tiana and Vincent gained hands-on experience in the use of the Esri ArcGIS suite of software as well as GIS project planning and implementation with strict deadlines and deliverables. They are undergraduate Student Associates of the SFU Esri Canada Centre of Excellence (ECCE) in GIS managed within the Geography Department. Student Associates have the opportunity to work closely with industry partners and develop professional network connections with peers across Canada.

Congratulations Tiana and Vincent on a job well done!
