Gaurav Malik
BA Economics and Philosophy, 2010
Gaurav Malik is a social entrepreneur that is making the world a brighter place. After graduating in 2010 with bachelor of arts with honours in Economics, and a minor in philosophy, Gaurav began his career with Nuru Energy in India.
Gaurav was the Co-Founder and Director of Partnerships for Nuru Energy in India, a start-up social enterprise born out of Rwanda and Kenya, Africa that addresses the global challenge of energy poverty at the Base of Pyramid (BoP). The company designs and disseminates affordable energy solutions while promoting rural entrepreneurship and the local economy. Village level entrepreneurs use Nuru Energy’s patented technology to recharge LED-based, modular, and multifunctional Nuru Lights for customers in their community. In India, Nuru Lights are also sold with solar chargers and other accessories, such as mobile phone chargers, to provide additional utility to off-grid populations.
Gaurav is currently continuing his education with an MBA at INSEAD Business School in France, one of the top MBA programs in the world. He recently completed a summer internship at Google, Singapore where he conducted strategic research on smartphone usage and mobile advertising trends and opportunities in emerging markets in APAC.
Upon completion of his MBA, Gaurav hopes to pursue a career in the Technology and/or Internet industries with a long term aim of scaling Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) at the Base of Pyramid to improve access to Education and Healthcare for billions of undeserved people around the world.
