The data is 2006 census data, provided by Blake Byron Walker, SFU
In the original data, age groups are divided in 5 year interval from 0 to 80. For the purpose of this project, people in age 0-9 (children) and age >70 are considered to be more vulnerable, in another word, are less efficient to evacuate during and after earthquake.
br>The data is in excel spreadsheet format containig DAUID. It is joined with BC coast line shape file in SFU SIS lab using the DAUID in ArcMap and display it as a shape file.

The population data is directly used in ArcMap to build the shape file.

Building construcion periods are originally divided in 10 year interval. From befor 1960 until 2006. I classified them into 4 groups: prev 1960; 1961-1981; 1981-1996; 1996-2006 where buildings constructed before 1960 are more likely to collapse and buildings built recently (10 years from data collected time) are more likely to stay. The same processure is used to map display them in ArcMap.
