A team of researchers led by Dr. Felix Breden, the Executive Director of the IRMACS Centre, has received an award from the CFI Cyberinfrastucture initiative. In a very competitive grant competition, Felix's team was awarded significant funds that will further develop the already successful IRMACS' iReceptor initiative. Congratulations Felix!

The IRMACS Centre will celebrate the 11th IRMACS Day on Friday, April 8th. We invite all members and friends of the IRMACS community to join us for IRMACS Day, as we pause for an afternoon to commemorate the past decade of research in the Centre and the many people involved. March 10, 2016

This year's IRMACS Centre's Pi Day celebration will take place on Monday, March 14th, starting at 11:30 am. Dr. Scott Chapman, Professor and Scholar in Residence at Sam Houston State University and Editor, The American Mathematical Monthly, will give a presentation titled "Pi Through the Eyes of the American Mathematical Monthly". Ozren Jungic, an SFU alumnus and a former staff member of the IRMACS Centre, has successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis at the University of Oxford. Congratulations from all of us, Dr. Oz!

Dr. Brian Corrie, the IRMACS Centre's Technical Director, has recently accepted a position as the Solutions Manager at the New Zealand eScience Infrastructure. Although this is an exciting opportunity for Brian, it does mean that after 12 years of dedicated excellence he will be leaving the IRMACS Centre. The IRMACS community will host a farewell reception in the Centre on Friday, January 22nd between 3:00 and 5:00 pm. Everyone is welcome.

The 6th Annual Aboriginal Students in Math and Science workshop is scheduled for January 14, 2015. The IRMACS Centre will host four prominent Aboriginal scientists and a group of about 70 Aboriginal high school students and their teachers for a day of hands-on mathematics and science. Between Dec 9-11, 2015, Dr. Veselin Jungic, a Deputy Director of the IRMACS Centre, and Dr. Cenk Sahinalp, a Canada Research Chair and an IRMACS Project Leader, visited the University of Sarajevo (UNSA). Among other activities, Drs. Jungic and Sahinalp, together with Mr. Salem Malikic, a recent recipient of the Peter Borwein Graduate Scholarship, met with the President of UNSA and discussed possible future collaboration between SFU and UNSA.
