CIS titles in wresting and basketball, NAIA title in softball

SFU’s wrestlers won both the men’s and women’s 2010 CIS national titles. In total, six SFU athletes won individual gold at the event, as the Clan men won their second overall and second straight CIS championship, while the women won their sixth CIS crown, their first since 2008. Also, SFU coach Mike Jones was named men’s and women’s Coach of the Year. In basketball, the powerhouse Clan women’s basketball team won its fifth CIS championship title in eight years.

Robyn Buna, a kinesiology major and guard on the team, finished off her SFU career in style, winning her third CIS national championship in four seasons and earning the 2010 CIS Nan Copp Player of the Year award and the CIS’ Most Valuable Player at the 2010 National Championships. Buna was also named the Clan’s top scholar athlete with a grade point average of 4.19.

The SFU Clan women’s softball team ended the season with a 2010 NAIA national championship; SFU's fourthNAIA national championship, including1999, 2003, and 2005. Four Clan players were named NAIA of Association of Independent Institutions All-Stars. Seniors Meaghan Cumpstone and Christine Barr alongside juniors Jessie Harris and Stefani Durrant were recognized for their performance during the 2009 season.
