Agreement signed by The municipality of Lisbon and simon fraser university
September 01, 2019
In September 2019, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Municipality of Lisbon (Câmara Municipal de Lisboa - CML) and Simon Fraser University (SFU). The Portuguese and English versions of the agreement can be found in the PDF files below. These documents lay out the rights and duties of each institution with respects to the transportation, curation, study and return of Portuguese unclaimed human remains. The agreement details the provisions for how and when the remains are to be returned to Portugal:
- The remains were provided by way of a loan for a maximum period of 10 years, starting from the date of the initial shipment;
- The loan may be renewed for successive periods of 5 years if both CML and SFU agree to continue to purse the goals of the agreement;
- After a deadline is agreed upon, SFU is obliged to safely return the remains to CML.
