Recommended course map
Below is a recommended course map for secondary school entrants in the SFU-Exeter Accelerated Law Program's Cognitive Science major. This is to ensure students meet the admission requirements to the University of Exeter Law School and that they are on track to complete the program within 6 years. You should also refer to our Cognitive Science course information page here to help with your course planning.
For Fall 2026 secondary school entrants
Year One
Fall Term
Complete 12 units.
- COGS 100 (3)
- CMPT 120* (3) - B-SCI and Q designation
- LING 220 (3)
- PSYC 100 (3)
*Minimum C- or better required for WQB
Year One
Spring Term
Complete 12 units.
- PHIL 100W* (3) - B-HUM and W designation
- COGS 200 (3)
- Complete two lower division courses in two of the five discplines: CMPT, LING, PHIL, PSYC and IAT (6). Refer to the list of courses here
*Minimum C- or better required for WQB
Year One
Summer Term
Complete 9-12 units.
Complete one of the following:
- MACM 101 (3) - B-SCI and Q designation or PHIL 110 (3) - B-SCI designation
- Complete two to three lower division courses in two of the five discplines: CMPT, LING, PHIL, PSYC and IAT (6-9). Refer to the list of courses here
*Minimum C- or better required for WQB
Year Two
Fall Term
Complete 12-15 units.
- Complete one of the following: COGS 300/310/315 (3)
- Complete four courses from two of the five discplines: CMPT, LING, PHIL, PSYC, and IAT (9). Refer to the list of approved UD courses here.
- Complete an UD writing course from within the COGS discipline. LING 301W or PSYC 300W are recommended to have it count towards the 27 UD COGS units as noted above.
Year Two
Spring Term
Complete 12-13 units.
- Complete four courses from two of the five disciplines: CMPT, LING, PHIL, PSYC, and IAT (12)
- Students must be in good academic standing (CGPA 3.0 or higher) by the end of this term.
Year Two
Summer Term
Students typically do not take courses as they prepare for transition to the University of Exeter.
Year Three to Five
University of Exeter
Students complete the LLB degree program at Exeter. Students will receive 30 units of transfer credit from your coursework at Exeter towards your degree at SFU.
Year Six
Fall Term
Complete 15 units.
- Complete two ALS courses to fulfill the Certificate in Foundations of Canadian Law (12)
- Complete one course from two of the five discplines: CMPT, LING, PHIL, PSYC, and IAT (3). Refer to the list of approved UD courses here.
Year Six
Spring Term
Complete 11 units.
- Complete two ALS courses to fulfill the Certificate in Foundations of Canadian Law (8)
- Complete one course from two of the five discplines: CMPT, LING, PHIL, PSYC, and IAT (3). Refer to the list of approved UD courses here.

You should complete a minimum 90 units at SFU. You will receive 30 transfer units at University of Exeter for a total of 120 units towards your degree.
