CES Reporting

CES reporting is provided to instructors as well as academic unit leaders and staff at the end of each term the day after the general grade reporting deadline. Reporting is currently provided in two formats: PDF and dashboard. Access to reports depends on report viewer roles and responsibilities.

Instructors

Instructors have access to three types of PDF reports through the CES portal:

  1. Instructor Report: this is the main report for instructors to review at the end of the term. It includes quantitative and comment responses to all common core, discipline, context and personalized instructor questions. Instructors can use this report to reflect on course design, teaching practices, and student learning experience.
  2. Course Report: this report looks just like the instructor report, however, it does not contain personalized instructor questions. Academic unit leaders and staff have access to this report to reflect on student learning experience and for use in biennial and salary reviews. It is provided to the instructor as a reference.
  3. Course Report (no comments): this report is just like the course report, however, all student comments are removed in line with the SFUFA collective agreement, should the instructor opt to exclude student comments from their biennial review.

In courses where the survey received less than 5 responses, these reports will be titled "low response" and have adjustments to information that protect student confidentiality.

Chairs, Deans, Directors and Managers

Academic unit leadership (e.g., Chairs, Deans, Directors, etc.) and staff have access to three types of PDF reports through the CES portal:

  1. Course Report: this report displays student responses, aggregated by course for all question types, except instructors' personalized questions. This is the only reporting where academic leadership and staff can review students' comments.
  2. Course Report (no comments): this report is just like the course report, however, all student comments are removed in line with the SFUFA collective agreement, should the instructor opt to exclude student comments from their biennial review.
  3. Course Listing Report: this report shows a summary of all courses and aggregate results (again, except for those associated to instructors' personalized questions) for the academic unit. It does not show students' comments.

In courses where the survey received less than 5 responses, these reports will be titled "low response" and have adjustments to information that protect student confidentiality.

In addition to PDF reporting, academic unit leadership and staff have access to CES results via a dynamic dashboard. The CES dashboard provides an overview of the average scores and frequencies for the common core, discipline and context questions for your academic unit in comparison to your faculty's averages and the university's averages. We will add more functionality and filtering capabilities to the dashboard in the near future. Currently:

  • Only quantitative response data is displayed (no comments are shown yet)
  • You can select up to three semesters or academic years to compare
  • Course filters are available for: graduate, undergraduate, lower division and upper division
