Research Interests

Dr. Michelle Pidgeon's research is at the intersections of higher education, student affair and services, and centres Indigenous ways of knowing and doing research. Following the 4Rs of Kirkness and Barnhardt (1991), her collaborations are relevant to communities, prioritize reciprocity and respect, while also upholding responsible relationships that are built before and continue after a project is completed. Her work focuses on understanding how institutional responsibility and accountability can empower wholistic understandings of Indigenous student success. The perspectives of students, staff, administrators, leaders, Elders, and community members are critical to enacting and sustaining transformational change across the post-secondary landscape — from policies to programs and practices.
