Funding
Undergraduate students in English are eligible for a number of different scholarships, awards, and bursaries. This funding is thanks to many generous donors over the years who have created endowments to support the English department and its excellent students.
Current: Shenul Dhalla Undergraduate Award in English
Applications are now being accepted for the Shenul Dhalla award. You are eligible to apply for this award if you:
- are in good academic standing,
- have completed at least 60 credits,
- will be enrolled in at least 9 credit hours in Fall 2026
Note: This is only open to students who have declared a major or joint major in English (i.e. not a minor)
To apply, please send the following to Professor Ronda Arab, Undergraduate Chair:
- a current, unofficial SFU transcript
- a personal statement which describes the relevance of the applicant's English studies to their future goals
Applications will be reviewed based on the personal statement, past and present academic achievement, and future promise.

Bursaries Available for English Students (August 31st to September 18th, 2026)
You do not need to specify the individual bursaries for which you want to apply. If you are eligible, you will be considered for all available bursaries.
To apply for a bursary, you must:
- Have demonstrated financial need (as assessed by SFU)
- Be enrolled in a minimum of nine units of standard graded courses in the term of application
