L. R. Wright Memorial Scholarship


L. R. (Bunny) Wright was a member of the charter class of the GLS Program in 1991. In 1995 she was the first person to receive a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies degree at SFU, and she won SFU’s Outstanding Alumni award for Arts and Culture in 1997.

She began her writing career as a journalist and went on the write award winning mystery novels. She was the first woman to win the celebrated Mystery Writers of America Edgar Allan Poe Award in 1986 for her debut novel, Suspect. In 1995 her book Mother Love won the Crime Writers of Canada Arthur Ellis Award for best novel and the Canadian Authors Literary Award for Fiction, the first time this award was granted for a mystery novel.

The L. R. Wright Memorial Scholarship was established in 2012 as a tribute to her by family and friends. Scholarship is awarded yearly, to provide financial assistance to students in the GLS Program.
