Eldon Yellowhorn, Professor and Department Chair of Simon Fraser University’s (SFU) Department of Indigenous Studies, is receiving accolades for his new children's book.

In February 2023, the Ontario Library Association (OLA) named Sky Wolf's Call: The Gift of Indigenous Knowledge by Eldon Yellowhorn & Kathy Lowinger as one of its top ten Best Bets of 2022 in the category of Junior Nonfiction.

The selection committee is "comprised of Librarians and Library Technicians who are OLA members, work in public libraries and are committed to children’s and young adult services and eager to evaluate and promote Canadian books.” The committee's recommendation states:

Continuing to expand upon their previous books, Eldon Yellowhorn (Piikani Nation) and Kathy Lowinger turn their focus to enlightening readers of Indigenous knowledge systems, from astronomy, to medicine, and the importance of protecting knowledge and passing it on. Readers will meet notable Indigenous figures, will become familiar with issues facing Indigenous Peoples today, and learn different ways of looking at the world. Full colour photos bring the book to life, and the authors have also included a list of further reading materials.

Sky Wolf's Call is also attracting critical acclaim internationally: Kirkus Reviews named it as one of its Best Middle-Grade Nature Books of 2022. Sky Wolf's Call was released in April 2022 by Annick Press, a Canadian children’s book publisher.
