Description

The Centre for Sustainable Development (CSD) at SFU, along with Sustainable Cities International (SCI) reached out to the world through an international youth internship program. The program was designed to support young Canadians to develop professionally and make a difference in urban sustainability and food security in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

Funded by Global Affairs Canada, the program sent 40 young Canadians to work with municipal governments in Tanzania, Senegal, South Africa, Mexico and Bolivia for periods of six months, in various activities related to sustainable economies and food systems.

The internship provided Canadian youth with the experience to embark on their professional career, while supporting international partners to foster sustainable development. Over 80 percent of Canadian youth who participated in past IYIs remained employed in international development and/or continued their participation in international development initiatives.
