The Department of Mathematics is proud to recognize James Houle in his role as the Faculty of Science convocation speaker for the Fall 2026 ceremony.
Houle completed his Master of Science in Mathematics in Summer 2026, focusing on number theory and Indigenous math education.
During his time at SFU, Houle has made progress toward open conjectures in algebraic number theory, coordinated the Math Catcher Outreach Program and held leadership roles in the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Student Association. Houle started his PhD program with us this fall, and has received a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada Graduate Scholarship.
