Internal Transfer Requirements
Major and Joint Major Admission Requirements
Requirements
To internally transfer to the Department of Mathematics as a major or joint major, students must satisfy the following:
 Students complete all the required lower division courses with an average of C = 2.00 GPA;
 Students must not achieve lower than the required grade in any of the program courses;
 Students are on good academic standing. If they have taken upper division courses, both their
cumulative and program upper division GPA must be at least 2.0.
We sometimes approve students who have completed as few as 2 to 4 required courses, if their grades are very good (B to A range) in first attempts taken at SFU. We assess these requests on a casebycase basis.
Additional Requirements:
 Students who are not currently in the Faculty of Science must also satisfy the faculty transfer requirements, found here.
 Students who use more than 3 repeats reduce their chances of being admitted.
 If there are any other issues on an academic record that suggest a student may struggle to complete the program, the application may be denied.
You can view program options and course requirements here.
Minor Admission Requirements
To declare a Mathematics Minor program, students must satisfy the following:
 Students complete all the required lower division courses with an average of C = 2.00 GPA;
 Students must not achieve lower than a C grade in any of the program courses;
 Students must be on good academic standing. If they have taken upper division courses, their
MATH/MACM upper division GPA must be at least 2.0.
Honours Admission Requirements
To internally transfer to the Department of Mathematics as a honours student, the following must be satisfied:
Students must be eligible to join the corresponding major program and must also satisfy the reqiurements below:
 Students finish lower division program requirements with a 3.0 program and cumulative GPA.
 If students have taken upper division courses, both the upper division program GPA and upper division cumulative GPA must be 3.0.
We sometimes approve students who have not yet completed the lower division requirements, if both the program and cumulative GPAs are 3.5 or higher.

If you have any questions, please contact the Math Undergraduate Advisor.
