Internal Transfer Requirements

Major and Joint Major Admission Requirements

Requirements

To internally transfer to the Department of Mathematics as a major or joint major, students must satisfy the following:

  • Students complete all the required lower division courses with an average of C = 2.00 GPA (the joint major program requires this GPA in each of the MATH, MACM, and CMPT categories);
  • Students must not achieve lower than the required grade in any of the program courses;
  • Students are on good academic standing. If they have taken upper division courses, both their
    cumulative and program upper division GPA must be at least 2.0 (the joint major program requires this GPA in each of the upper division MATH, MACM, and CMPT categories);

We sometimes approve students who have completed as few as 2 to 4 required courses, if their grades are very good (B to A range) in first attempts taken at SFU. We assess these requests on a case-by-case basis.

Additional Requirements:

  • Students who are not currently in the Faculty of Science must also satisfy the faculty transfer requirements, found here.
  • Students who use more than 3 repeats reduce their chances of being admitted.
  • If there are any other issues on an academic record that suggest a student may struggle to complete the program, the application may be denied.
