Department of Mathematics Awards
Department awards are intended for students with strong academic records + great enthusiasm for mathematics. Enthusiasm might be demonstrated by: attendance at seminars, colloquia and other Departmental events; participation in the Math Student Union or AWM; volunteering for outreach or other initiatives, and/or pursuing an honours degree.
Fall 2026 award intake period: Closed (Deadline: September 7 @11.59 PM)
Spring 2027 intake period: TBA
Minimum eligibility requirements:
- Students must be in their third or fourth year of study - (~60+ units completed)
- Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 9 units in the Fall 2026 term.
- Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 => be in good academic standing.
- Students must be a declared MATH, APMA, MACM, MAPHHON or OPRES major. (Math MINORS are NOT eligible for this award.)
Application packages for Department of Mathematics Awards must include the following 3 items:
- A recent advising transcript: To generate, see HERE.
- A one-page statement of interest that details why you believe you are the right candidate for this award. (Standard formatting => 12 pt font, double-spaced, etc.)
- A letter of reference from a MATH faculty member : Please have your references submit their letters to MATH Undergraduate Advisor directly via email (math_advice@sfu.ca).
