Vice-President, Research and Innovation
As of July 2026, Vice-President Research and Innovation (VPRI) Dr. Dugan O’Neil will have completed his five-year term in this role. He is eligible for reappointment for a second 5-year term, following a review process as mandated and outlined by GP 29. A committee has been established to review Dr. O’Neil’s performance and to provide a recommendation for either a reappointment or to initiate a search for a new incumbent.
SFU is a research-intensive university with a growing reputation for world-leading research. The Vice-President, Research and Innovation has a key role in advocating for SFU’s research mission, both internally and externally. The VPRI is the strategic lead for developing and maintaining regional, national and international partnerships on behalf of the university, as well as the lead for developing the university's Strategic Research Plan in alignment with What's Next: The SFU Strategy.
