SFU begins review and consideration of reappointment process for vice-president, research and innovation
As of July 2026, Vice-President Research and Innovation (VPRI) Dr. Dugan O’Neil will have completed his five-year term in this role. He is eligible for reappointment for a second 5-year term, following a review process as mandated and outlined by GP 29. In accordance with GP 29, a Search Committee has been established to review Dr. O’Neil’s performance and to provide a recommendation for either a reappointment or to initiate a search for a new incumbent.
The reappointment review process will include broad consultation across the university and with appropriate external constituents. Through several consultation initiatives, there will be opportunities for students, faculty and staff to provide feedback on Dr. O’Neil’s work to date. All feedback will then be reviewed by the Search Committee.
The potential reappointment of the VPRI is an important decision for the future of the university, and I encourage everyone to get involved and share your perspective. Your feedback is important to us.
