The craftsmen here are experts in the design and fabrication of research equipment using metal, wood, and plexiglass. These machinists use a variety of tools, including a Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) milling machine that carries out precision work that cannot be done by hand, to craft and design custom pieces specifically for your research needs.
Our in-house glass blower, Lucas Clarke, designs and constructs all custom scientific glassware and equipment for the university teaching and research programs. Besides glass-blowing, he also creates glass to metal seals, works with quartz, produces double walled custom glassware as well as any other shapes and styles of your choice.
Lucas has worked with departments spanning Archeology, Mathematics and Chemistry. Please feel free to contact him to discuss your research requirements.
Electronic Technologists in SFU’s Electronics Shop not only maintain and repair a vast array of scientific apparatus, but they are also experienced in designing and building custom electronics for specific research needs. Besides their repair and design, and build functions, the shop staff are a consulting resource. Science faculty and staff are always welcome to drop in and ask questions.
