Junoh Bede Kim

PhD student

Biography

Junoh Bede is a current PhD student with a strong research focus on urban metabolism and energy systems. Before joining ΔE+, Junoh studied architecture and biotechnology as an undergraduate student at Sungkyunkwan University and obtained a master’s degree from Seoul National University in urban energy planning. After graduation, Junoh worked on hydrogen-based energy transition modelling in urban contexts.

Their early academic experience in biotechnology and architecture gave them insight into the way to understand the built environment. Understanding the built environment as a living organ led them to the urban scale of energy, water, and food dynamics, which are defined as urban metabolism.

With academic and occupational backgrounds, Junoh understands the importance of optimizing energy systems for planning and enhancing modelling frameworks. Their research is developing energy system models to contribute to urban and regional planning. From this background, Junoh’s primary research interest is urban metabolism modelling.
