Based on the case of Québec, this presentation will provide a brief portrait of the confluence between two disciplines that have sometimes been considered mutually exclusive: Indigenous studies and urban studies. We will focus on: how urban studies pose, or not, the question of Indigenous Peoples living in urban areas; what are the conceptual, epistemological and methodological challenges raised by the study of Indigenous histories and contemporaneities in settler colonial cities; and how these challenges require not only a redefinition of the city, but also a paradigm shift in order to apprehend it.
