Faculty Relations Announcement

July 06, 2022

We are writing to inform you of changes to the VP People, Equity and Inclusion (VPPEI) leadership team. After careful consideration, Ella Forbes-Chilibeck, the Executive Director, Faculty Relations has decided to resign from her position for family reasons. Ella’s last day with SFU will be Friday, July 15.

As you may know, Ella reported directly to the VPA and the VPPEI in her role. We extend our sincere appreciation to Ella on behalf of the entire university community for her contributions during her time with SFU.

The office of the VPPEI is particularly grateful for her support and guidance as the Faculty Relations (FR) team was moved into this new portfolio. The office of the Provost and Vice-President Academic is very appreciative of the positive attitude and humour Ella brought to her position, and for the work Ella did on increasing the stipends for Chairs, Directors and Associate Deans, and the groundwork she has laid for consideration of how to address partial disability claims. She championed the issues facing continuing lecturers, and consistently provided guidance and support to both faculty and administration in a fair and even-handed manner.

As a next step, we will be in conversation to discuss options and assess the FR leadership structure to best meet the needs of the faculty, the FR team and the broader SFU community. Many thanks to the entire FR team for their dedication and patience as we continue to navigate this transition together.

In the interim, the fr_execdir@sfu.ca email address will remain active to support continuity. Faculty are invited to continue contacting this address for all inquiries requiring the attention of the Executive Director.

We are eager to strengthen our relationships between and within the VPPEI portfolio and the office of the Provost and Vice-President Academic to ensure that we are meeting the needs of our outstanding faculty community here at SFU.

Sincerely,

Yabome Gilpin-Jackson, PhD
