PILAR Activities

Professor Jeff Reading delivered a talk on Tobacco and Indigenous Populations at the
2nd World Indigenous Cancer Conference in Calgary, Alberta;  16 -19 September 2019.

PILAR researchers began a series of visits in May 2019, and as guests on the traditional and unceded territories of Indigenous communities across BC. Community engagement meals were held in Witset First Nation, Katzie First Nation, Adams Lake Indian
Band and Cowichan Tribes, and at health fairs held in Witset and Katzie, and the Quw’utsun Intertribal Pow Wow held on Cowichan territory.

In March 2019, six Community Research Associates from five BC First Nations communities attended a PILAR Tobacco Project training workshop at the First Nations Health Authority and Simon Fraser University.
