IS Major and IS Joint Major Program Declaration Requirements

Students are eligible to declare their major or joint major in International Studies after successfully completing 30 units which must include IS 101, plus two of:

  • IS 200 (required for Concentration 1)
  • IS 210 (required for Concentration 2)
  • IS 220 (required for Concentration 3)
  • IS 230
  • IS/HIST 265

Applications should be made at the end of the term after all final grades have been released.  

The CGPA to declare a major or joint major in IS for Spring 2017 is 2.7. This may change in future terms.

Please submit a copy of your advising transcript showing final grades for the term, sorted by term and subject to ellenyap@sfu.ca.  In the subject line of the e-mail, indicate the following information in the order specified: Applicant Name, Student Number, and Major/Joint Major Application.  Specify your intended concentration.

The next application deadline is May 1, 2016 (for Spring 2017).  

Applications are accepted at the end of each term.

IS Minor Program Declaration Requirements

Students are eligible to declare their minor in International Studies after completing its lower division requirements.  Send your request to ellenyap@sfu.ca, along with a copy of your advising transcript, sorted by term and subject anytime of the year.  Specify your intended concentration.

The CGPA to declare a minor in IS for Spring 2017 is 2.5. This may change in future terms.
