Industrial & Power Electronics

Modern industrial and power electronics play a key role in many electrical processes ranging from megawatt electricity transmission and distribution to microwatt energy harvesting and power conditioning.

Here at MSE, we study the fundamental technical challenges related to electrical power conversion and control, embedded computer control systems, power supplies, electro-mechanical systems and motion control systems.

Industrial/power electronics is a multi-disciplinary area involving devices, components, magnetics, electronics, modulation and control systems. Our research covers a wide range of topics with close collaboration with many local and international partners.

Research Topics

  • Distributed generation and smart grid
  • Energy harvesting from mechanical vibrations
  • Lighting control for building energy-efficiency
  • Motion control
  • Power electronics converters for renewable energy systems (solar, wind, wave), electric vehicles
  • Regenerative suspension
