Wellness Classes

All SFU Vancouver students, staff, and faculty are welcome to join us for the free wellness classes listed below! All classes take place in the SFU Vancouver Wellness Studio. 

Using the Wellness Studio:

To use the Wellness Studio, you must meet be an SFU student, staff, or faculty member and complete an SFU Athletics & Recreation Waiver once per academic year (September-August).

Location: SFU Vancouver Wellness Studio, room 2530, Harbour Centre, 515 W. Hastings St.

SFU Athletics & Recreation Waiver:

*Online Waivers: Once you have completed the Waiver online, please take a screen shot and send to vanadmin@sfu.ca, or forward the confirmation email you receive to vanadmin@sfu.ca. A record will be kept of online Waiver completion, so that you do not need to fill out a hard copy of the Waiver in the Wellness Studio.

Please Note: No registration is required. Attendance to classes is first-come-first-served and limited to 15 people per class. Classes can fill up quickly and when they reach capacity, we will not accept any more attendees. Please arrive early as access to class will end at the posted start time.

Wednesdays

October 18 - November 29
12:30 - 1:15pm Tai Chi with Shanny Rann This is not your typical Taiji class. Join Shanny Rann, a first-generation lineage holder of Sanxing Taiji for 45 minutes of movement meditation. No Taiji form will be taught. You will learn the basic stances of Taiji, including horse stance and the golden rooster standing on one leg stance. Try it out to gift yourself a better focus and balance. You will leave the session feeling reinvigorated. This class is for absolute beginners, with no experience in Taiji.

Participants are requested to wear loose-fitting clothing and flat-sole shoes for better qi circulation and grounding.
Thursdays

October 19 - November 30

*Please note: Oct 19 class is cancelled
12:30 - 1:15pm Hatha Yoga with Pamela Ferman Hatha Yoga, with a focus on alignment, pairs seated, standing and on-the-back poses with breathing techniques. This class will flow slowly and smoothly from one posture to another, with some long holds in between for deeper fascia stretching. A combination of flexibility, strength, balance, movement, and stillness will be used throughout the class. Participants will leave feeling more grounded, energized, and balanced between body and mind. All levels and beginners are welcome!

*Please bring your own yoga mat. We will not provide any mats or props.
