SFU Beedie sponsors new AIB award honouring late former dean Daniel Shapiro
SFU’s Beedie School of Business is proud to sponsor a new award from the Academy of International Business (AIB) that honours the legacy of former dean, the late Professor Daniel Shapiro. The Daniel Shapiro AIB Insights Award for Actionable Insights celebrates scholarship that bridges theory and practice—an ethos that defined Shapiro’s distinguished career.
Danny, as he was affectionately known, passed away in January 2025. Over 48 years, he authored 116 publications and mentored countless students and colleagues, leaving an indelible mark on the fields of international business, corporate governance, and public policy. As SFU Beedie’s dean from 2008 to 2014, he elevated the school’s global profile and championed research that addressed real-world challenges.
The award reflects Shapiro’s belief that academic inquiry should inform action. His legacy continues through this sponsorship, inspiring future scholars to pursue rigorous, relevant research with humanity and curiosity.
SFU Beedie is honoured to support this initiative and celebrate the life and work of a scholar, educator, and leader whose contributions continue to shape global business thinking.
