Student Blog

Welcome to the GSWS Student Blog, a creative and collaborative effort by students in the Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies (GSWS) at SFU. Although SFU is situated in British Columbia, Canada, as a group of students we represent countries and communities from around the world.

You’ll find out more about us individually by visiting the GSWS website and looking at our student profiles and the GSWS Student Union page.

Our reasons for studying within the GSWS program are many and diverse. We are, however, united in our passion for this work and this space allows us to share it with you.

The content we post here is for anyone who has an interest in gender, feminism, LGBTQ2+ issues, queer theory, colonialism, class, race, equality and women’s studies. To discuss these topics and more, we present you with op-eds, reading lists, book reviews, conference experiences, artwork, poetry, and other forms that showcase our interests.

We would also love to hear from you. If you have comments on our posts or ideas you’d like us to post about, email us at gswscomm@sfu.ca.

Thank you for taking the time to explore our work and to consider our perspectives. It is this exchange of ideas that will enrich our scholarship and help us to build connections between what we do and the community, locally, nationally, and internationally.

“A feminist is anyone who recognizes the equality and full humanity of women and men.”

― Gloria Steinem
