Students gain hands-on experience at Science World
Last fall at Science World, students of First Language Acquisition (LING 350) took part in a unique practicum called Science Share, a hands-on learning experience where they gained valuable skills and put theory to the test.
Guided by associate professor Henny Yeung, each student devised, developed and brought to life an interactive language game played with visitors aged 2 - 5 years. By collecting these observed findings of how kids learn their first language, students took the reins of their own research and applied what they learned in class to a real-life setting.
The Language Learning and Development Lab handles event management and coordination with Science World, helping students navigate the process and answering any questions from the parents and guardians of the child participants.
Thank you to all of the students featured in video below, and to all of the students who participated in Science Share! A special acknowledgement goes out to the Language Learning and Development Lab staff, including recruitment coordinator Olivia Yung for the video voiceover and lab manager Abigail Agyeiwaa for managing the initiative.
