Open Scholarship Champions
As we grow our community, we have started an Open Scholarship Champions program. This program is aimed at empowering people in the Open Scholarship movement at SFU through training and leadership opportunities. The Champions act as advocates, allies and points of support to our community members, helping their peers, answering questions, hosting events and promoting open scholarship practices across all three campi and beyond.
Our pilot cohort of 10 students graduated from the Nebula program, which coaches Open Science practitioners through the Open Science 101 program of NASA. These 10 students are now leading activities and implementing OS principles in their own hubs across SFU.
New round open!
After a successful pilot, we’re excited to launch a new round of our Open Scholarship Champions Program. One pre-requisite to be an OS Champion is to have gone through any training on open science or open scholarship and provide proof of completion. One of these available training is the Centre for Open Science’s self-paced courses, which issue badges upon successful completion of each course.
We are happy to announce that we'll be able to fund 10 seats for our community for this round of OS Champions!
As a contribution and as part of their Champions mandate, participants will complete a project of their choice (with our support), applying what they have learned and contributing to the Open Scholarship movement in our University.
Participants will have until May 1, 2027 to complete their training and until August 1, 2027 to complete a project of their choice.
If you’re unable or prefer not to take a COS course, you can still participate! Simply complete another open scholarship training and provide proof of completion. All participants, regardless of which training they choose, will have the same August 1, 2027 deadline to complete their projects.
