ISA Research Project Management
The Institutional Strategic Awards (ISA) office houses a team of project managers who support research projects conducted throughout the university. About the ISA Research Management Team
SFU's Research Management team consists of approximately 7 Research Project Managers who provide support to research projects and portfolios at Simon Fraser University. This unit lives within the VPRI and is part of the greater Institutional Strategic Awards (ISA) team. Research Project Managers are assigned out to research projects where they provide tailored support based on the needs of the project. We conduct support that is not typically provided by other faculty and department staff since it is project-specific rather than standard support. Usually a project must have funding for the Research Project Manager in its budget in order for an ISA Research Project Manager to be assigned to it.
Mandate
The mandate of the ISA Research Management team is two-fold:

Support faculty by providing research project leadership, operational expertise, and assistance navigating administrative hurdles, all aimed at improving research project/portfolio efficiency and freeing up the faculty member’s time for research.

Strengthen SFU’s research reputation with funders and maximize research impact by proactively managing institutional risks, ensuring compliance and supporting the successful delivery of complex research projects and portfolios.
How we Achieve our Mandate
The ISA Research Management Team achieves this mandate by using project management principles, best practices and tools to help a researcher set up and maintain their project or portfolio for success. We provide support that would not otherwise be provided by existing institutional, faculty, or departmental units.
