SFU and FNHA sign MOU to improve health and wellness of First Nations peoples in B.C.
Simon Fraser University and the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) have signed a new three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that formalizes and strengthens their long-standing partnership. The agreement outlines a shared commitment to advancing programs, research, policies, and services that support the health and well-being of First Nations peoples in British Columbia, grounded in the principles of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
For the SFU School of Medicine, Indigenous Health is a foundational pillar. This renewed partnership with the First Nations Health Authority affirms a shared commitment to truth-telling and reconciliation, and will help inform and guide all aspects of the School’s work, including curriculum, research, and community engagement, with a focus on culturally safe, community-engaged medical education.
“We are excited about this MOU and our continued partnership with the FNHA as we work together to improve the health of First Nations people in British Columbia by educating and training future physicians who will deliver primary care that is both high quality and culturally safe,” says Dr. Rebekah Eatmon, associate dean, Indigenous Health, SFU School of Medicine.
