FAMILY MEDICINE PROGRAM
Program Information
The Family Medicine (FM) Residency Program is a two-year, community-focused training program designed to prepare residents for comprehensive, patient-centered family practice in diverse and growing communities across British Columbia.
The program will welcome its inaugural cohort of 12 residents in 2027.
Program Format: Full-time 2 years
Program Director: Dr. Amber Jarvie
Board Eligibility: Family Medicine CFPC
Application Deadline: November 26, 2026
Applicants pursuing residency training in Canada apply through the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS). The application process and eligibility requirements differ for Canadian Medical Graduates (CMGs) and International Medical Graduates (IMGs). Prospective applicants are encouraged to review the eligibility criteria and application guidance specific to their applicant type before participating in the residency match. For more information, visit the CaRMS Eligibility Criteria, the CMG Match Overview, and the CaRMS Applicant Help Centre for detailed information on CMG and IMG application pathways.
Applicants seeking disability-related accommodation for the MMI must contact SFU’s Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL) as soon as possible after receiving an interview invitation and no later than the deadline outlined in the interview invitation. To be considered for MMI accommodations, applicants must complete CAL’s MMI accommodation registration/intake process, as described on the CAL website, and provide supporting documentation. Applicants may contact CAL at caladmin@sfu.ca any time with questions about the MMI accommodation process.
How to Apply
All applications are processed through CaRMS and must be submitted in accordance with CaRMS requirements and timelines. Applicants who are invited to interview will be contacted directly by the University, while all other application-related communications will be available through the CaRMS system.
Please review the program descriptions for specific information on eligibility requirements and required documents for CMG and IMG streams.
