Community Consultation: University Health and Safety Policy (GP17) Review
The following message is sent on behalf of Karamjeet Heer, Interim Vice-President, Finance and Administration.
Dear University Community,
SFU is committed to providing a healthy and safe learning, teaching, research and work environment for all members of the university community. The university is updating the University Health and Safety Policy (GP 17) to reduce the risk of injuries and incidents and to ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements.
GP17 applies to all SFU community members and therefore, policy updates will impact all employees, students and contractors. The policy updates are consistent with the goal of transforming the SFU experience outlined in SFU’s What’s Next Strategy and was last reviewed in 2019.
Proposed policy changes include:
- Clarifying roles and responsibilities related to safety training for all SFU employees, students and contractors.
- Defining procedures and responsibilities related to impairment in academic and workplace environments.
- While most employees have already taken the mandatory safety training, there may be additional refresher training required.
We invite you to review the proposed policy amendments.
