Research Systems

SFU's primary software vendor for research administration is Kuali - a US-based software developer. Kuali was originally developed as open-source software by a coalition of universities. With the growth of software-as-a-service and cloud models, the Kuali Foundation founded a for-profit company to take the next step in product development. Today, Kuali has about 30% of the US market, and is slowly moving into Canada. All of our software run on Canadian servers, and our data stay in Canada.

Kuali SFU has implemented 3 Kuali products:

  • Kuali Protocols https://sfu.kuali.co/protocols/portal/protocols
Use Kuali Protocols if you are conducting research with human subjects. This is where you can submit and review human ethics applications, amendments, and renewals for human research ethics certificates and manage course approvals.

Please visit this page for more information about using Kuali Protocols.

  • Kuali Research https://sfu.kuali.co/dashboard/common-tasks
Use Kuali Research to submit and review research funding applications (grants, contracts, donations for research) for internal approval and submit requests for research support agreements (NDA, DAA, MOU, MTA)
