Training and information sessions and their recordings are available to all staff and faculty members:

Information Sessions

The 1.5-hour information session will prepare SFU retirees for the upcoming August 18, 2018
transition to SFU Mail. The session will cover the following topics:

  • Overview of the transition from SFU Connect to SFU Mail
  • How to prepare, and what to expect after the transition
  • Key differences between the SFU Connect and SFU Mail
  • Walkthrough of methods of accessing your new SFU Mail account
  • Where to direct additional questions before and after the transition

Attendees may join in person or, for the SFU Burnaby session, online via a live stream link that will be published on the session date. While registration is not required for live stream, attendees will need to sign in with their SFU Computing ID and password. To modify or cancel your in-person registration, please contact

Basics Training Sessions

The 1.5 hr basic training session will cover the following topics:

  • Email and calendaring basics on the Outlook Web App (OWA)
  • A walkthrough of the Outlook 2016 desktop application (either PC or Mac)
  • Quick steps for setting up mobile devices
  • Q&A periods throughout and after the session

Power User Sessions

A power user is someone who manages more than one account/calendar on someone else’s behalf, manages a room or resource, or has an otherwise complex email or calendar workflow. These unique workflows will likely require training that supplements the basic SFU Mail training that will be offered to all SFU staff and faculty. 

The 1.5 hr power user training session will cover the following topics:

  • Sharing mail folders
  • Sharing calendars
  • Delegation (send on behalf of/send as)
  • Resouce/room management
  • Managing multiple accounts
  • Managing multiple calendars
  • Email filters (rules)

Custom Training Sessions for Staff/Faculty

Pre-scheduled training sessions have been cancelled due to low registration. However, if your department has 5 or more individuals interested in a custom training session, please contact with the following information to arrange a session:

  • Number of attendees
  • Specific topics, workflows, and questions to be covered
  • Mac or PC
  • SFU Mail web app, desktop application, and/or mobile application
  • Location of training session (projector required), preferably in your area

Sessions are normally 1.5 hours in length, and can vary depending on the contents to be covered. Scheduling is subject to instructor availability.
