Under Construction - First Peoples Gathering House
This gathering space will be located at the Strand Hall Annex on Burnaby Mountain. The facility will host a large ceremonial hall for hosting special events of up to 300 attendees. It will also include a dressing room, an Elders room, a classroom, a wellness room, and a multi-generational Indigenous peoples’ lounge as well as a food service kitchen.
Currently under construction. Expected completion in Winter 2023/24.
As identified in the 2017 Walk This Path With Us Report, Call to Action #3 aims to “reinvigorate long-delayed plans for creating a culturally appropriate ceremonial hall and space. The Aboriginal Reconciliation Council’s (ARC) recommendation has been that this ceremonial space should serve as a cultural hub for the use and education of all SFU community members and visitors.
ISC Surrey (SRYC 5300)
Located on the 5000 level of the Surrey Campus, the ISC Surrey is a designated study space for currently enrolled Indigenous Students. The ISC Surrey is growing! We are working towards equipping this space with a kitchenette, printer and study/lounge space. Drop by throughout the week for in-person ISC programs.
Hours of Staff Support: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm
The ISC Surrey space will now host a passcode for entry on a 24/7 basis. We would like to extend the hours of this space for students who might need access outside of our usual 8:30am - 4:30pm, as well as ensure safety given the ISC's close proximity to the general public on Surrey Campus.
If you plan on studying at Surrey Campus after-hours, please contact Jasmin Glaw from 8:30am - 4:30pm at (778) 782-7556 or email jasmin_glaw@sfu.ca for the passcode and save it in a secure/accessible so that you can reference it in the future. Please do not share this code with folks outside the ISC community.
Please remember that the ISC is exclusively available to currently enrolled Indigenous students and that our four community pillars of trust, reciprocity, respect and humility should continue to be honored when using the space.
Coming Soon - ISC Harbour Centre (HC 7440)
