About
When Simon Fraser University (SFU) ventured from its Burnaby Mountain campus to downtown Vancouver, its beginnings were modest but its vision was ambitious. What began as a small continuing education program in the 1980s grew to become the preeminent post-secondary presence in Vancouver. Today, SFU’s vibrant downtown campus is described by the Vancouver Sun as the “intellectual heart of the city”, and is renowned for of its extensive range of educational programs and first-class facilities.
The downtown campus has branched out beyond its beginnings at SFU Harbour Centre to include a flourishing business school, a thriving school for contemporary arts, and a stunning global centre for dialogue and civic engagement. The academic programs and public participation offered in these facilities reflect the commitment of SFU to policy-making, professional education and performance-related studies in the downtown campus. The location of the campus also makes it a popular hub for conferences, symposia and other events, bringing thousands of people to the university’s urban location.
