Our pedagogical commitment is to create opportunities to explore and draw attention to children’s emerging ideas and theories. To do this, we ground ourselves in on-going project work that weaves together the voices, experiences, and interests of our children, families, and educators as co-learners. We aim to discover and make meaning, provoke reflection and collaboration, and uncover the significance of seemingly ordinary moments together.
“The foundational beliefs and values that educators hold when thinking alongside children and how our ideas and beliefs shape and inform the curriculum.”
Inspired by the nature and pedagogy of the West Coast, our programs view the environment as a third teacher. In collaboration with children and educators, the environment holds histories, guides thinking, affects experiences, and actively contributes to the communities we inhabit. As such, the aesthetics and intentions of each space, provocation, and documentation are carefully considered as they will influence responses and transform what is possible.
"Today we concluded nearly 10 years at SFU childcare society. Some of the educators we have met along the way have made such an incredible difference for our kids. They are brilliant people that have made my children better people, and have inspired me as an educator. Children have a vast potential, and I was always impressed to see what they could bring out of M, E & F. xoxo"
