FAS MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

The SFU Faculty of Applied Sciences (FAS) Mentorship program aims provide undergraduate students with practical career guidance and clarity on how to transition into the workforce seamlessly from university.

In the FAS Mentorship program, undergraduate students connect with professionals from the tech community in their areas of career interest in order to make better-informed career choices and expand their understanding of a target industry.

WHY PARTICIPATE?

Students

  • Gain support and clarity around career pathways, industry requirements, and navigating career advancement
  • Establish and achieve SMART goals under the guidance of a mentor
  • Develop fundamental skills and/or knowledge around job searching, networking, creating an online presence, and portfolio development

Mentors

  • Have the opportunity to give back and provide input about career growth from your own lived experience
  • Develop leadership skills and coaching experience
  • Help shape the leaders of tomorrow and have a positive impact on the career progression of young professionals
  • Build authentic relationships and expand your network

WHAT'S INVOLVED?

  • All mentees and mentors who are selected to participate will be given a Mentorship Handbook and access to our Canvas Course to review program expectations, timelines, and resources for setting and tracking SMART goals
  • All participants will be asked to attend an orientation session to cover program expectations and other details
  • The program will kick-off with an in-person Welcome Reception on the SFU Campus
  • Mentee and Mentors will then meet approximately 1hr/month (online or in-person) over the course of 6 months

TIME COMMITMENT

  • The program runs for a duration of 6 months in total
  • Each mentor and mentee should aim to meet once per month, for approximately 1 hour minimum
