TechConnect Spring 2024
What is TechConnect?
SFU FAS TechConnect is a student-experience program aimed to ease your transition into the Faculty of Applied Sciences (FAS) at SFU. Each session is aimed at helping you to make the most of your university experience - socially, academically, and professionally.
Why should I participate?
TechConnect involves a series of sessions throughout Fall and Spring. Our sessions offer:
- Make lifelong friends in your program
- Fun social activities
- Connect with student mentors
- Opportunities for skill development
- Study prep sessions
- Career-related workshops
- Program-related workshops
- Health & Wellness sessions
Plus, complimentary food and beverages will be served at each session!

As a TechConnect mentee, you’ll have the added benefit of connecting with student mentors declared in the same major and learn first-hand about what to expect from life at SFU!
Win prizes
TechConnect students are automatically entered to win gift cards at the end of each session. A grand prize will be drawn at the end of the semester too!

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS
Fall Workshops
| Session | Description |

| Welcome - Scavenger Hunt | In this first session, you'll learn more about TechConnect and meet peers from your program in this fun session. In small groups, you’ll compete in an on-campus scavenger hunt for prizes! |
| Surviving FAS | Learn how to ‘survive’ your first term at SFU. This session will cover the three pillars which are key to your survival in FAS - friendships, study hacks, and communication. Plus – get practical advice from senior students in your program! |
| Thanksgiving social | Come hang out with your program peers with a complimentary Thanksgiving lunch. We will have tons of board games in this casual session, giving you a chance to catch up with friends over delicious food! |
| Course planning | Get help with course planning for Spring semester from FAS advisors. We’ll share in-depth information on: which courses to take, appeals process, WQB and elective options, as well as important School policies you may not know! Plus – Free food and drinks! |
| Winter Social | Wrap-up your first semester in FAS with food, games, and gingerbread cookie decorating content. Prizes will be given away to the best decorated cookie! |
Spring Workshops
| Welcome Back - Team Smack down | In teams, you will go head-to-head in a series of games and compete for an epic grand prize! This fun, interactive session is a great way to rekindle friendships from Fall or make new companions. Plus - complimentary food and beverages will be served. |
| Value-based Goal Setting | Learn how to set realistic academic, personal, or professional goals that align with your core values and what steps to take to achieve them. |
| Mid-term social | Unwind with your FAS peers over a complimentary lunch, board games, and video games! This casual session will give you a chance to catch up with your friends over delicious food. |
| LinkedIn Hacks | Learn how to optimize your online presence with this practical LinkedIn workshop. You'll learn the essentials, plus tips on how to boost your SEO. Participants will also receive a free head-shot from a professional photographer! |
