Graduate Degree Programs

We welcome applicants for Graduate Studies in all of our research areas. Graduate programs in the Department of Geography at Simon Fraser University provide students with the best possible research and academic preparation in a diverse range of fields, from urban systems to political economy, geomorphology to climate science, and agent-based modeling to geovisualization. The Department offers MA, MSc, and PhD degrees focused on research in human geography, earth systems dynamics (physical geography) and spatial and geographic information systems. Interested potential applicants should contact potential supervisors directly, as virtually all entrants identify possible supervisor(s) before they enter the program.

Further information about the department, about the research programs of individual professors, and about how to apply are found on our website, and we encourage you to contact us with questions.

If you can, you are welcome to visit us in person. We are located in Burnaby, a suburb of Vancouver, British Columbia. We are easily and quickly accessible via public transport and by car. If you plan a visit, please get in touch with the faculty member(s) you would like to meet to arrange a time and date that works for both of you.

"What I most enjoyed about my time at SFU was the incredible faculty. They were challenging, interesting, supportive and, yes, engaging!”  Jessica Place, Dean of Graduate Studies Convocation Medalist, 2015.
